Dear Adult Education Administrators,

I’m inviting you to an upcoming meeting of state and local leaders developing strategic partnerships and improving system alignment around apprenticeship. This meeting is part of a statewide effort being led by the California Workforce Association (CWA) and Safal Partners, a US Department of Labor-recognized national apprenticeship leader. CWA and Safal are leading the USDOL Registered Apprenticeship Center of Excellence’s work in California and I have the pleasure of serving on the Center’s state leadership team.

As you may be aware, significant investments have been made and initiatives undertaken over the last seven years to advance registered apprenticeship as a workforce development tool for employers statewide. I have attached a flyer outlining that state-initiated work as well as a one-pager highlighting the Center’s efforts to build on that work and accelerate apprenticeship adoption.

We kicked off the Center’s work at a recent CWA WorkCon preconference session to a standing-room only audience. Over two days nearly 200 individuals from workforce, industry, education and government joined our workshop and panel sessions. The next step is taking those conversations and “Strategic Doing” sessions into the field to engage organizations like yours. As a state leadership team member, I’m invested in modernizing apprenticeship to benefit both businesses and job seekers, but I need your help to make that happen.

We’re holding three regional sessions across the state. The goal of the meetings is to help participants develop strategic partnerships across workforce, industry, education, community-based organizations, and local government; and jointly develop implementable plans for accelerating apprenticeship adoption and improving system alignment at the state and local level . Please invite your partners (i.e. community colleges, K-12 adult schools, workforce boards, industry, community organizations) to join you and make this a work group time for your organization to build upon your local apprenticeship efforts so far. You will be able to sign up as a team by selecting your local workforce development board for your team.

Registration for each session is available at the CWA site (you can register to attend multiple events*):

• August 2 from 8 – 12 PM in Sacramento
• August 4 from 8 – 12 PM in Fresno
• August 9 from 8 – 12 PM in Southern California

*If you are attending a session outside of your region, please pick whatever workforce board you would like to team up with on this day.
